tuna

Question:

It contains high levels of magnesium which most vets believe may contribute to the forming of crystals in the kidneys, and could eventually cause a *blockage* of the urinary tract (commonly referred to as FUS).  This blockage can be fatal within days. As a VERY INFREQUENT treat, it may not pose any threat.  But if you have a cat with a history of FUS, avoid tuna and especially salmon at all costs. — Bev. :-(  I recently (within days) took my cat off my family, who had been neglecting it. It looks like they’d been feeding her tuna, presumably because it’s cheaper than tinned food. Do I need to worry? If problems develop, what should I watch for? She’s fine at the moment. —
