Cat Foods

Try feeding your cat raw fresh human quality meat and fresh fish. A raw diet gives them them a natural closest to what they would have in the wild. People become sick if they do not eat fresh foods.  Fresh food maintains health and will prevent your cat from generating disease in later life.  Try to avoid commercial foods at all costs. You will find your cat will enjoy the variety of fresh food. Commercial foods are addictive to cats and can not provide your cat with a nutritious, balanced diet.  Only you can do that. I know that this may not make any difference to your views of food, but try petting a cat that is fed something like Innova/Wysong/Nutro, and then one that is fed Friskies.  The coats of cats on the high grade foods are softer and silkier.  This may not have any indication of general health, but I have to consider that if it makes a visible difference in coat health, there are probably invisible benefits as well.  And even if that is the only difference, the coats on the good food just feeler nice to pet.  And that’s worth it, to me. Have you been to the friskies cat food website?  It doesn’t give a  full list of ingredients for the product, just a list of "key ingredients".  The list makes it sound like the food is full of good stuff.  Since I don’t feed Friskies myself, do you have a package you could take a list of ingredients off for us?  Or is it posted somewhere else on the web? Friskies is "fine" in that it can sustain a cat.    A good analogy already mentioned is MacDonalds.   Anyone can live on MacDonalds because they can be sustained on it, but it is junk food.  The same is true for Friskies.  A cat can be sustained on it, but that does not make it a good food.  A cat can live a much healthier life on a better quality food.  Just like a person can live a healthier life by eating less saturated fat (ie NO MacDonalds as the staple food). It’s not rocket science.  I really have no idea why someone would want to feed Friskies instead of something better in quality like Nutro.  Unless they are cheapskates, simple as that. Kelly

I had 2 cats that got bad urinary tract blockages from "cheap" dry cat food so the vet had me change to Hills which has very low Mag and ash. That was 10 years ago; today almost all cat foods advertise low Mag and ash so what was bad may now be ok.

From my experience, cats are creatures of habit and often prefer (unlike us humans) to eat the "same ole, same ole." As long as the quality of their diet is high, I don’t think it matters. Judy & Matilda

Hi Steve.  My personal belief is that cats need more than cereal to maintain good health, and they need a varied diet.  You could try some of the higher quality commercial foods out there such as Innova, Wellness, Wysong or Petguard.  Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they need a meat based diet, preferably of whole uncooked foods with live enzymes for optimal health.  You may want to check out www.felinefuture.com Lauren =^..^= See my cats:   http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/mickey4paws2000/lst2?.tok=bcSBfAPB.wc8DtTG… =/Mickey%26Meesha&.src=ph

Actually I feed my cat Friskies both canned and dry. She loves it and I always have a variety for her. My cat also gets her usual cat treats as well. — Cat Galaxy- The Internet radio station for cats. Why is that every time Friskies or another food is mentioned someone else has to force their brand on the person? Firskies dry and canned is just fine for a cat. — Cat Galaxy- The Internet radio station for cats. From my experience, cats are creatures of habit and often prefer (unlike us humans) to eat the "same ole, same ole." As long as the quality of their diet is high, I don’t think it matters. Judy & Matilda

Is it unhealthy for cats to digest the same meal every day? should cats have a variety in their diet? like chicken, turkey, etc. my cat only seems to like the dry food (chicken) and the ‘Friskies beef chunks’, but might he have stonger bones or a shinier coat by eating other meats? are there cat foods that have everything a cat needs?   You’d think after 5 years of eating the exact same meal every day he’d be like, ‘ah man, beef and chicken again!’ –Steve

I believe in a variety, just because I don’t believe that any one food will provide everything they need, but that’s just my opinion.  Jacque
