Question:

>I’ve posted in HTML before and had tons of answers (its off now for >the sensitive).

It still doesn’t mean that it’s ok to post in html. A lot of people set up their newsreader not to download posts over a certain size, and in addition a lot of newsservers (like mine, for instance) do automatically bin html messages and/or messages containing attachments. By posting in a way that is not content with Usenet standars one excludes lots of readers — readers who may very well have answers to the questions asked, but never see the post at all. Usenet (binary groups excluded) is for plain text only. Simple as that. Well … d0h!  :) Adressing Usenet standards is still a valid point, though, as posting anything but plain text cause trouble for a lot of readers. Lucy, I don’t respond to alot of subjects that I don’t know anything about, I am first time being owned by cat, Harley, a feral I trapped outside in November 99.  I really hope Buster is doing well.  Take Care. say much but I feel like I should now. A week ago or so, I posted a question about a new kitten that had been adopted by my friend. She wasn’t eating or using her litter whatsoever so my friend called and asked me to post to this group about it. I got ONE response… ONE … from Helen. (thank you to Helen) It seems this group is more for posting personal attacks and flame wars than it is for helping people with their pets. Why is that? This whole issue with Bugs and her cat, Karat amazes me. I have been reading this group for a few years now and she has always given great advice and genuinely cares for her cats and their well being. ONE person seems to have started this huge rumour and all hell breaks loose. I think it says a lot for mob mentality. There is movie coming out called Gossip and from the previews, it seems like it was written for half the people in here. Maybe its time for us all to re-think of the reason we read this group. Animals are creatures of God, created by love and kindness, treat them as you would like to be treated.

This was exactly what I would reply.  I am not an expert on cat health.  I help if I think I have some knowledge that would help, but often I don’t, so I don’t clog up the board with messages that say "Gee…I wish I could help…" But if you ever have a problem I can help with, believe me, I will! gee guys(or gals) I really appreciate some feedback and knew someone would come thru!   THANKS!  As it turned out we got a second opinion (as suggested by (oh i forget but you know who you are) and it was like a light bulb went off.  Our second opinion turned out to be a life saver, although Buster has now lost his hearing.  The new vet(of 15 years) said he had never seen anything like it!  However he did a great job with Buster and put him to sleep yesterday and flushed his ears and gave him lots of medicine. Cleaned the  ears, where the crusty scales are and has run some tests. To our delight and surprise he tested negative for FELV( although I know that is not conclusive–however in his state we thought that it was a sure thing).Today he   is responding well and eating to regain his five pounds lost ( he now weighs 8 pounds-is 4 years young) and has used the litter box today.  He is an outdoor cat and has not wanted out YET  although just had surgery yesterday but we are hopeful.   All this cost a quite a sum of money which we really don’t have but are making do– barely.  Like I said the tests are being run and will let all know ( who care to).  He has been shaved around  his ears and eyes and has an Elizabethon collar on to prevent scratching the ears.  Looks funny but does the job and yes he hates it for now.  What is funny is that my poodle of 5 years who never wanted anything to do with Buster (he is jealous) has watched over him constantly. Oh how I love my babies!

I think you’re missing the point here… the problem with the kitten is solved. Lucy, I don’t respond to alot of subjects that I don’t know anything about, I am first time being owned by cat, Harley, a feral I trapped outside in November 99.  I really hope Buster is doing well.  Take Care. I AGREE!!! You practically took the words right out of my mouth. I have been thinking the same thing for the last few days only never got around to posting it. I also wrote in about my cat Buster have bad ear sores and got only 1 or 2 replies but yet there were umpteen postings about the "other" problem in this ng. I have only been to this ng for a couple of months and came here when I realized I needed opinions and support for Buster. Thinking this was just what I needed I did post about Buster only to find out how insignifigant my problem was. So I guess I thought wrong. So unless this ng changes I guess I will be alone with Buster and – Amen! — "For every action, there is an equal and opposite criticism."

I read your post about Buster, but didn’t have a clue what might have been wrong with him so I didn’t post a reply.  It wasn’t that I was ignoring your post, I just didn’t have any knowledge to impart.   I am sure many people read it and found themselves in the same positon.  There is a group in alt. vet med.  that has a lot of knowledgable people.. plus vets, it’s a good place to go to ask questions too.

I’m glad Molly is eating and playing!  That’s good news.  Please don’t give up on us as a newsgroup yet.  We do care. Diane * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

I responded to you.  Look it up on Deja if you don’t believe me.  I also remember someone told you that you posting in html was a problem for some people.  I changed your message to plain text when I responded, so perhaps that’s why you missed it.  Try turning off your html & only post in plain text. — Shelly visit my online store: http://www.vstore.com/vstoredogs/petlover

I usually don’t say much but I feel like I should now.

<snip-the html part> If you haven’t already, you might want to post on alt.cats   or alt.pet.cats .  I don’t think there is a flame war going on there in those 2 groups so your post might get thru.

So unless this ng changes I guess I will be alone with Buster and my thoughts.

Sorry, Rachel, I`ve only been here `bout a month. I don`t have the time to read all of them  (I wish) but I`m trying to scan through it everyday. When I see a post with hardly no responses, I will purposely respond to it even if I can`t offer any help, to at least let the poster know he`s being read.  The others that already have pages of responses, I usally just scan on by, unless it`s something I wanna get into. I must not have seen yours. I`ll make it up to you.     See, I already have. Faye

I think you’re missing the point here… the problem with the kitten is solved. I’ve posted in HTML before and had tons of answers (its off now for the sensitive) .  The point is, flame wars attract more attention in here than actual posts and questions regarding the cats. This is always true;HTML or not.

Rachel, Hey, I replied also.  Maybe your server didn’t pick it up. Also, as a tip for future use, most people in here won’t read a message if it has html.  Try to turn it off ok?
