Maine Coon needs home

Please note that the poster is not the person who had the cat declawed and that she is trying to find a home for the cat because her other cat terrorizes it. Laura — One man’s mundane and boring existence is another man’s Technicolor. -Tick, Strange Days

Response:

If you would read the previous messages, I DID NOT DO THIS TO HER!  I got her this way!  She has no problems with her life at all except that my male cat is antagonizing the hell out of her and I don’t want her to live her life looking over her shoulders.  She needs to be in a home where she is the ONLY pet.  I guess I didn’t realize how our first cat would react.

Well please do make sure that if you do find someone, that they will be dedicated to the cats healthcare.  It sounds to me like the cat has some difficulties (ie severe gingivitus, special diet).  She will probably need someone who is familiar with cats and their health.  Unfortunately many of these good cat owners have cats already, making this kind of adoption impossible because she needs to be an only cat. Are you really in Ireland? So? God, you are so touchy, looking for offence where none is intended. I meant the people who originally had her four paw declawed – they clearly didn’t love and respect her. And if I did mean you, I would have made it absolutely clear, believe me. As I said, if I made any assumptions at all, it was that you were posting on behalf of the vet where you work, and that the cat was there. Or you could have been posting on behalf of a shelter. The one thing I did *not* assume was that she was in your home, because your post actually sounded to me like you didn’t know this cat particularly well. The only reason I > brought up the LASER is because I know that it is less invasive and recovery > is a lot faster than regulare procedure.  Also, although surgery is surgery, > there is alot less pain involved.

How do you "know" this? Does the vet you work for perform four paw declaw, and does he tell clients the laser is more humane? I have no doubts that your case is genuine, but if this trend continues, we will have lots of requests from people wishing to find new homes for their pets here, it isn’t what this NG is for, is it? I don’t mean to upset anyone, just don’t want to see this NG as a pet swapping place….there are special cases, of course, but…..I am just shaking my head, a bit…Andr0

Personally, I didn’t get the impression that the poster was the one who had had the cat declawed; I just got the impression that she was afraid of getting flamed if she mentioned the declaw status so she mentioned that it was done via laser in hopes that it would minimize negative reaction. I’m not in any way, shape or form a proponent of declawing, but I also didn’t get the impression that the poster was the person who had had the cat declawed. After all, don’t we usually try to get as much information as we can about the health and past of the cats we adopt? I have.  I also thought this would be a good way to find her a home, too.

Why does she need a new home? After all, the pro-declaw proponents claim declawing cats saves them from being dumped. Didn’t work for this poor girl. I hope she finds a home where she’s treated with love and respect. pet! Actually, Lori, I’d say *you* are the one jumping to conclusions. Since I myself have a declawed cat but didn’t have her declawed (it’s illegal in the UK), I do understand that it is possible to have a declawed cat without being responsible for the declawing. I never said or implied that you had it done, in fact I didn’t actually think you had. Since you mentioned working for a vet, I assumed she was dumped at the vet’s. You still didn’t answer my question about the laser though. It is irrelevant how it is done, it’s still brutal mutilation. You say that it is your cat that is harassing her.  Are you SURE she has to go into an only cat situation?  Perhaps she is able to get along with other less dominant cats fine.  If she is a passive cat then there is a very good chance she would get along with other cats fine.  I would certainly consider this fact when adopting her out. Yes absolutely.  Because if it were me, I would be inclined to place her with someone who has experience with cats and cat health – due to Crystals health problems.  ANd most likely this will be someone who has one or more cats already. Kelly PS – keep us updated on your progress.

My God, what sick fuck 4 paw declawed this poor animal and is now dumping him!!! I guess another digit amputated cat loses his home.  What is that they say? "oh, but declawing saves a cat his home."  Bullshit!!!! =^..^= See my cats: http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/mickey4paws2000/lst2?.tok=bcSBfAPB.wc8DtTG… =/Mickey%26Meesha&.src=ph

I was going off of what I was told about the LASER.  No there is not a no-kill shelter near me.  The shelters in this area really don’t screen their candidates well(from working at a vet, I know this to be true).  I just assume screen potential owners and make my decision from there.  LORI

Brown mackeral tabby female spayed 4 paw declawed(with LASER) needs a home where she is the only animal!  She is shy at first but adjusts really well. She does have a condition called stomatitis, sever gingivitis, basically. The vet I work for diagnosed this problem as an immune deficiency. She has been tested 2X for the FeLV/FIV and both were negative.  She does eat Purina CNM-EN(available at a vet).  She does not eat hard or canned food.  Please contact me if you know of anyone who is interested. Thanks, Lori

and the relevance of this is? She’s still had all (and I mean *all*) her toes amputated. Poor baby. needs a home > where she is the only animal!  She is shy at first but adjusts really well. > She does have a condition called stomatitis, sever gingivitis, basically. > The vet I work for diagnosed this problem as an immune deficiency. Why does she need a new home? After all, the pro-declaw proponents claim declawing cats saves them from being dumped. Didn’t work for this poor girl. I hope she finds a home where she’s treated with love and respect. Helen, How dare you assume I had that procedure done to her!  I could have saved her from a home or for that matter adopted her from a humane society. DON’T you dare jump to conclusions Helen and make me out to be the bad guy! My male cat attacks her in a very hard playful manner and she does not need that!  She’s constantly looking over her shoulders for a clear path to even use her litter box!  She needs to be in a home to where she is the ONLY pet!

I think you assumed….you are the one who’s last comment was "I hope she finds a home where she’s treated with love and respect!".  The only reason I brought up the LASER is because I know that it is less invasive and recovery is a lot faster than regulare procedure.  Also, although surgery is surgery, there is alot less pain involved.
