Mom & Kitten fighting?

Question:

I hope this comes out right. What you described is ok. There is nothing wrong with the behavior you described as far as the way cats interact. Hissing, even pouding one another with paws is natural in the animal kingdom. It really is not human behavior they are doing, it is cat behavior. And when it takes place between two cats that love each other, it is really considered normal cat behavior. I adopted a kitten and she took to my older cat who was the only one here as like a mother. They are very close and love each other dearly. But the older one wil def hiss and hit the younger one wih her paws if she has something to convey to her. And the younger one does seem to accept the behavior as what i observe to be ‘normal interaction’. Sort of like if one teen yells to another "get out of my room" and screams it out. Teens do this, will scream like that and it is really within the normal range for teen behavior. Same with cats…we will observe or perceive some behaviors between cats who care about each other as agressive but in reality to them in their kingdom if talls within the normal range. Hope this helps. Stephanie http://www.dewittanimalhospital.cjb.net

Hi, I have had Roisin (Mom, 18 months) and Ruari (Son, 9 months) for 4 months now, they have always gotten along well and amused each other with play-fighting and games, recently however, they growl and hiss at each other and it’s not in play. They rarely hang out together anymore and poor Ruari seems to be upset by it, Roisin hisses at him and swipes him whenever he comes close, they don’t groom each other like they used to and except sometimes when they’re sleeping don’t cuddle together anymore. I have tried to discourage the hissing and growling by saying no or stop whenever I am nearby and hear it, they seem to know I don’t like it and usually do it out of sight..anyone have any advice on why they are not getting along anymore or what I can do to help repair their relationship? Both are fixed, both get the same food, same loving, toys etc… Thanks, Leah
