I know that for an expert opinion, you should contact a qualified veterinarian. Queens will eat the afterbirth to restore lost nutrition after pregnancy, but I’m not sure about the kittens, themselves. Was the kitten she was gnawing on still alive, or dead? I’ve heard of one other case where a queen ate of a kittens whole leg, and I knew this kitten as an adult who had adapted well to being an amputee, he was even an accomplished mouser. As previously mentioned in other replies, don’t physically punish your cats- they will only learn to fear you- but I can imagine your horror at discovering such a gruesome act. PLEASE REFER TO A VET FOR PROFESSIONAL ADVICE.

Newsgroup responses can take time….the kitty doesn’t always have the time to wait. <I have my cat for more than five years, she is a female, and have had 20 cubs so far.> I believe you mean kittens, not cubs (unless she’s a lion.)  Also, are you breeding her and selling the kittens or giving the kittens to good, loving owners? Or are you unaware of the process of spaying so she doesn’t give birth to any more kittens (that may not be cared for?) Since she goes outdoors, is there another reason why she’s exposed to male cats (and could get pregnant?) <Now she had five new cubs (around a month ago)…today I saw my cat, couple minutes after she had her lunch, eatin kittens. I was terrified and kicked the hell out of her. I don’t know weather the kitten died of natural causes, or the mother killed it.> Kittens, you mean.  Since you don’t know whether (not weather, as in the climate outside) the cat was doing something wrong, what are you doing "kicking the hell out of her"? If you are uneducated, then learn about cat behavior and what cats do to kittens that are born with defects. The cat was doing something that she was genetically assigned to do. Whatever the behavior, your abuse is inexcusable and unacceptable. I don’t know how old or young you are, but in any case, either learn how to treat pets/animals or don’t own/care for any. You can correct your idiotical behavior if you attempt to learn how to do so.

Is it common where you live to have your pet cat raising her kittens outside? Providing her a safe place inside your home and keeping careful watch over her and her young would be the quickest way to stop her from eating them (and would prevent other cats from doing so). Additionally, kicking your cat for eating her offspring teaches her nothing, and it does nothing to punish her, if that is indeed what you imagine you were doing. If kicking your cat is a common behavior for you, perhaps the best way to stop her from doing anything inconvenient to you would be to find her a new home. Cate
